With the New Year setting in, the party weekend is over. But you still haven’t had enough and have already begun to plan your next weekend, halfway through the first week of 2017. Nicholas Sparks’ love story is translated to film via the powerful performances of Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. It is truly a love story for the ages, as the audience gets to see the couple in nearly part of their life, experiencing every part of their lives with them.

2. Pretty Woman
Millionaire Edward Lewismeets prostitute Vivian Ward on Hollywood Boulevard, after a fallout with his girlfriend. He asks her to get in the car and show him how to return to the Beverly Hills Regent where he is staying. He later hires her to play his girlfriend and accompany him to hi-profile dos. While things don’t always go smoothly, the two fall in love and both are forever changed because of the arrangement.

3. Gone With the Wind
Gone with the Wind is a 1939 American epic historical romance film adapted from Margaret Mitchell’s 1936 novel Gone with the Wind. Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War and Reconstruction era, the film tells the story of Scarlett O’Hara, the strong-willed daughter of a Georgia plantation owner. It explores her romantic pursuit of Ashley Wilkes, who is to be married to his cousin, Melanie Hamilton.

4. The Wedding Singer
This romantic comedy set in the ‘80s is as much about loving as it is about laughing. It stars Adam Sandler as a wedding singer in the 1980s and Drew Barrymore as a waitress with whom he falls in love. The film was later adapted into a stage musical of the same name, debuting on Broadway in April 2006 and closing on New Year’s Eve of that same year.

5. Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing is a 1987 American musical romance film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the lead roles, as well as Cynthia Rhodes and Jerry Orbach.The movie itself, a torrid romance between two people who everyone would like to keep apart, is a staple in both ‘80s fashion and dancing. One of the grandest musicals of the era, this film is a timeless classic.

Starring Billy Crystal as Harry and Meg Ryan as Sally, the story follows the title characters from the time they meet just before sharing a cross-country drive, through twelve years or so of chance encounters in New York City. The film raises the question “Can men and women ever just be friends?”

9. Notting Hill
Featuring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, Notting Hill is a classic fairytale. When leading Hollywood actress Anna, visits Notting Hill, she encounters William Thacker who owns a book store. Over a series of meetings, they develop a comfort and sparks off an undercurrent of love. When Anna leaves the town, the budding romance comes to standstill. How do these lover reunite forms the crux of the remaining story.

10. Roman Holiday
An American romantic comedy, Roman Holiday, features Gregory Peck as a reporter and Audrey Hepburn as a royal princess out to see Rome on her own. Frustrated with the demands of the royal palace and the pressures of constantly behaving as expected of a crown princess, Ann elopes from the embassy. When Joe Bradly encounters the prince on a bench, he tries to help get back home, without realising she’s the princess. A series of events follow, leading to the chemistry between the lead characters.
